bio
I am an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at Stanford University studying human-computer interaction, visualization, and social computing. I am affiliated with the HCI group.
I completed my Ph.D. at Berkeley in the Visualization Lab. Over the years, I’ve worked at (Xerox) PARC, Microsoft Research, IBM Research, and Tableau Software.
I also created the prefuse and flare visualization toolkits.

Our research investigating the graphical perception of time-series visualizations has been awarded a Best Paper Award at ACM CHI 2009. 
I recently presented A Brief History of Data Visualization at the Stanford HCI Seminar. The video is on the internets. Our work on social data analysis was featured in the January 2009 issue of Communications of the ACM.
